Otto Harris Eckstut owned the legendary MontSerrat Restaurant on South Street in Philly for over 20 years and has over 30 years experience in the independent restaurant industry. He was the Founding Chair of the South Street/Headhouse District in Philadelphia – one of America’s first “small” BIDs as well as its 1st Zoning Committee Chair. Harris brokers/sells/acquires restaurants and properties. Harris advises and implements restaurant business plans, opening & operating budgets, financing, investor scenarios, and restaurant turnarounds strategies for independent restaurant owners, banks, attorneys, investors, and landlords. Harris also works with developers, small business improvement districts, and Municipal authorities on restaurant and business development.

What is your favorite Philly neighborhood, and why?

South Street – because that’s where my restaurant, MontSerrat, was for 25 years – and I even was inducted into the “South Street Hall of Fame.” … And more importantly, South Street has been a commercial district since the 17th Century when the Quakers crossed to the south side of South Street (then Cedar St- which was then New Sweden) to PARTY!
